Accurate multi-cycle path (MCP) definitions are critical to backend flows. Missing or inaccurate MCP exceptions can lead to inefficient timing iterations and poorly optimized designs. Large SOCs face challenges in defining functionally correct MCP exceptions during the design phase to bridge the gap between frontend and backend designers. We formulated a methodology to automatically dump timing paths from the design to help define exceptions, seamlessly re-iterate while maintaining these definitions, and integrate the MCP exceptions at the SOC level, enabling thorough verification. Additionally, automation extracted and classified the violating exceptions. This methodology empowered the team to confidently deliver quality designs.
